Dear Lily Lake Families,
As we embark on a new school year, it is our mission at Lily Lake to stamp out bullying and teach kindness and compassion for others. Through tier one systems of support, we regularly teach students expected behaviors and how their attitude and behavior impact others.

During the next couple of weeks I will be visiting LL classrooms to discuss the impact of bullying and the difference between being mean, being rude and bullying. I will be showing the video found in the link below written and directed by a former St. Charles middle school student, Jonah Maxwell. I have attached the video and resources for you to discuss with your child.

The Bully by Jonah Maxwell

Students will also have an opportunity to pledge their intentions to keep bullying and intimidating behaviors out of our school. Together students and staff make a commitment to Care about ourselves, Care about others and Care about our school!

In partnership with you,
Ms. Jurs

Dear Lily Lake Families,

As this school year comes to a close, I want to take a moment to thank you for a wonderful year.  The staff and I would sincerely like to thank all of the parents and families who contributed to the many successful school events we had this past year.  Our school is a better place because of the support you provide!

I would also like to take this opportunity to send best wishes to an outstanding group of fifth grade students as they move on to a new chapter in their learning career. These children have made a positive impact on others during their time at Lily Lake and we could not be more proud to call them LL Lions!

As we close the 2018-2019 school year, I wanted to remind you about the need to monitor your child on their social media accounts. Summer time is a fun time when students like to take a lot of photos. Please discuss with your child the importance of turning off their location on their cameras and to never post anything that would indicate where they live, or frequently play. Take time to unwind, refresh and relax together with family and friends and we will see you back here on August 13th from 2:00-3:00pm for our school supply drop off day!

Have a great summer!

Sincerely,

Ms. Jurs

Dear Lily Lake Lion Parents,

As we have moved through this year, I have had parent requests for more information
about social media apps. I have recently developed a social media
parent training and list of apps that kids at all levels are currently using. Being
informed about the apps your child is using is vital. Not monitoring their device,
or knowing what apps they are using, or who their followers are is like giving
your child keys to your car, letting them go to another state, or fly to another
country, without any guidance. Keeping up to date on current technology is
one of the many challenges parents today face as we navigate the safety surrounding
apps out there.

I have a middle school 8th grader and require her to show me her apps and
how she uses them. I have random phone checks once or twice a week and I
must know her passcode so that I can look at what she is doing on her phone
at any time. If she changes that code without my knowledge, she knows her
phone will be dropped from our family phone plan. My daughter isn’t happy
about that, but I know it keeps her safe and me aware of the digital footprint
she is creating for herself.
I can’t stress enough that children have NO privacy when it comes to a device
YOU own. Even if your child purchased their own device, or phone, or it
was a gift to them by Papa and Grandma, you own the plan and YOU are in
charge of monitoring that device. Please see the attached list of apps that I do
not recommend for students.

Please click on the following link for a list of Red Zone Apps.

Dear 4th Grade Parents and Students,

Greetings from the District 301 Band Program! We are very excited to begin the registration process for another great year of music-making in our 5th Grade Beginning Band program! This letter serves as an introduction to this exciting and truly unique experience.

The beginning band program provides students a one-of-a-kind experience to learn how to play an instrument. Our program provides instruction on:

  • Specific instrument sound production and techniques

  • Music reading skills including reading note names, rhythms, and vocabulary

  • Irreplaceable Full-Band musical performance concepts

  • Concert performance preparation and etiquette

During these two weeks of April, students will be learning about the band instruments and trying out their top two choices during their music classes. Students who are interested in joining band in 5th grade will then talk with their parents about attending registration night.

Our registration times are: Friday, April 26th at CMS from 4-7pm and Saturday, April 27th at PKMS from 9am-noon. Interested families need only attend one event. The entire process should take approximately 30 minutes.

For more information on the band program and sign up procedure, please click on our Google Presentation (https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1HXMZjMOo-zjwljdIpoVF-OHyzTtZMyeElxalYH2jMCY/edit?usp=sharing), and read the attached PDF. Students will be receiving information to take home during the week of April 22nd. If you have any questions on the attached material, please feel free to email:

Annaliese Siegel (annaliese.siegel@central301.net) – Prairie Knolls, Country Trails, Prairie View

Or

Kevin Fredrick (kevin.fredrick@central301.net) – CMS, Lily Lake, HBT

We look forward to meeting your children in upcoming weeks, and you at registration night!

Sincerely,

Annaliese Siegel and Kevin Fredrick

Dear LL Parents,

A new app called the Monkey app is becoming popular with elementary aged students. I do not recommend this app for students, but especially not for the elementary aged student. The Monkey app is an app that connects users to talk with strangers for 15 second video chats using their Snapchat usernames. Users are randomly paired with strangers for a 15 second video chat and link to usernames and phone numbers when the child signs up for the app. Other users then see the age and gender of the other user before connecting with them in a 15 second chat. Users do have the option to extend their video chat time past 15 seconds and add other users to their Snapchat to keep the conversation going.

The Monkey app relies on Facebook or Snapchat to verify that the user is over the age of 13 and users can post a “moment” for all of their followers to view. Direct messaging allows users to chat privately and users earn “bananas” (points) by using the app which for younger students may seem game like.

The concern is that adults will utilize this app to groom children by communicating with them and eventually establishing a rapport with them. Younger students don’t always know what information is appropriate to share online with strangers. Please help us keep your child safe online by regularly spot checking your child’s devices, have conversations with them about what to post and what should never be posted and make it safe for your child to report things they see, or hear online. It takes a community to keep our student safe with all the technology out there today!

Sincerely,

Ms. Jurs
